If you’re living in Southeast Idaho it costs more on average to insure your car than if you lived on the west side of the state.

According to a study of insurance quotes from 40 Idaho cities done by valuepenguin.com, the cheapest place to secure automobile insurance in the Gem State is Eagle with an average annual quote of $793 for two drivers. The next four lowest cost cities were Kuna, $799; Meridian, $804; Boise, $806; and Mountain Home, $811.

Most of the cities in Southeast Idaho were above the state average of $847.

Pocatello was ranked 23rd at $858. Blackfoot was ranked 21st at $855. Other cities in Southeast Idaho and their annual costs were American Falls, $847; Malad, $849; Aberdeen, $849; Preston, $856; and Shelley, $858.

The most expensive cities in Idaho for insurance were Orofino and Grangeville tied at $883; Cottonwood, $882; Priest River, $880; Driggs, $878; and Bonners Ferry, $876.

The website compared auto insurance quotes for two sample drivers in 40 cities across Idaho: a single 30 year old male, and a 65 year old single male. They both were said to own and drive a 2010 Toyota Camry 12,000 miles a year to mainly commute to work. Each of our sample drivers had a good credit score and driving record with no accidents or violations in the past five years.

The policy quotes were based on bodily liability of $50,000 per person or $100,000 per accident; $25,000 in property damage; $100,000 in uninsured motorist coverage; $1,000 in medical payments and had a $500 deductible per accident.
