IDAHO FALLS — A 74-year-old local man died Friday afternoon after a car ran a stop sign and slammed into the van he was driving at a rural intersection north of Idaho Falls, the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office said.

Doyle Barney of Bonneville County was driving a Chrysler van southbound on 5th West when a Toyota Corolla traveling east on 81st North failed to yield at a stop sign and struck his vehicle around 12:30 p.m., authorities said.

Deputies and ambulance personnel performed CPR and emergency aid on Barney at the scene, but he died from his injuries.

A 72-year-old female passenger in the van and the 20-year-old male driver of the Toyota were transported by Idaho Falls Fire Department ambulances to a local hospital with significant injuries. Their names haven't been released.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Idaho Falls Fire Department, Idaho Falls Police Department and Idaho State Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
