POCATELLO — A 27-year-old local man who vanished early Tuesday after a single-vehicle crash near Mink Creek and East Fork has been found alive.

Kendall Thoren was located Wednesday and medical staff are currently evaluating him at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Bannock County Sheriff's Office deputies plan to interview him once he is discharged.

Bannock County Sheriff Tony Manu declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding Thoren's disappearance and reappearance, saying his office would not weigh any accounts of the incident until investigators formally interview both Thoren and the other occupant of the vehicle

The other occupant, Aidan Fitch, is Thoren’s boyfriend, Aidan's mother Star Fitch told the Idaho State Journal during a phone interview Wednesday afternoon.

Aidan remains hospitalized at PMC with serious injuries, including fractures to his upper and lower spine, a concussion and bruising, Star said.

Aidan regained consciousness Wednesday but remains heavily sedated, said Star, adding that communicating with him is still difficult.

"Having a full conversation with him is a hard thing to do right now," she said.

Authorities launched an extensive search for Thoren after he was reported missing around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities received information on Tuesday that Thoren had left the scene on foot without his phone before first responders arrived.

Search efforts included a thermal drone deployed in the early morning hours Tuesday, multiple Search and Rescue personnel working in shifts, and the Bannock County Backcountry Search and Rescue team. The sheriff's office has described the crash as suspicious.

Investigators asked the public to refrain from speculating about the case and said they would not release further details about the crash or Thoren's disappearance at this time.
