BLACKFOOT — Members of the community are invited to celebrate the city of Blackfoot’s 125th anniversary later this month at the annual Celebrate Blackfoot event.

Jaime Popejoy, executive director of the Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce, said the event will be held Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, at Jensen Grove.

“On Friday from noon to 5 p.m. is the Smoke and Wings Barbecue Competition over at the airport,” Popejoy said. “On Saturday, all vendors and activities will start at 10 a.m. and go until the evening. The fireworks start at 10 p.m.”

Popejoy said she is excited to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Blackfoot in conjunction with the 250th anniversary of the United States. She said Blackfoot is a great place to be and she’s glad it’s been around for so long.

“It’s really incredible for Blackfoot being between big towns like Pocatello and Idaho Falls,” Popejoy said. “Blackfoot is really a neat little town.”

Several regular vendors such as Mexican Crazy Corn will make an appearance at Celebrate Blackfoot, and Popejoy said a few new vendors will be coming to the event as well.

“East Meets West, Knots and Nibbles and Cindy Lou’s Kitchen are a couple of our new food vendors,” Popejoy said.

One new feature of this year’s Celebrate Blackfoot is the Pioneer Settlement, which will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27. It will allow visitors to learn more about what life was like in the days of the pioneers.

“We’re going to have old-fashioned ice cream,” Popejoy said. “Kids are going to learn to scrub laundry on the old washboard. We’ll be gathering eggs.”

Other favorite events such as the car show, the kids zone and the cornhole tournament will also be held during Celebrate Blackfoot.

“We have our workout classes,” Popejoy said. “On Friday at 8 p.m. is the Zumba party, and Saturday morning at 8 a.m. is yoga and pilates.”

Popejoy said the most popular part of Celebrate Blackfoot is usually the car show, which had more than 100 cars entered last year.

“It’s growing like crazy every year,” Popejoy said.

The best part of Celebrate Blackfoot for Popejoy is watching everything come together. She said a lot of hard work goes into the event, and it’s good to see that hard work pay off.

“I love everyone coming out and enjoying themselves and celebrating what makes Blackfoot Blackfoot,” Popejoy said. “We had approximately 10,000 people last year.”
