POCATELLO — Three years after moving to the Gate City, Heather and Brandon Wilcox, the owners of A Different Cup, hope their coffee shop has found its permanent home.

The Wilcoxes initially opened A Different Cup on North Main Street in Pocatello shortly after they moved here from San Diego. They offered specialty coffee including cold brewed coffee infused with nitrogen gas.

In March 2018, A Different Cup moved to a new location inside the Station Square building in Old Town, and in November, they opened another location in the building that formerly housed CoHo at 904 S. Fourth Ave.

The couple held the official grand opening celebration for their Fourth Avenue location on Jan. 12, and dozens of people gathered to enjoy treats and coffee.

Though the location has been open since before Thanksgiving, Heather Wilcox said they wanted to wait until the holidays were over and students were back in school before hosting an event.

“We are super happy,” she said. “We’re excited to be by the university and have that market.”

Wilcox said the new location, which is located next to an Idaho State University parking lot, has also led to an influx of new customers.

“There’s more foot traffic here,” she said. “So there have been quite a few new customers, but then we still have our regulars as well.”

Though Wilcox said the drink menu in the new location will remain relatively the same, they are hoping to expand the food options.

“We’ve always had different baked goods, but we’d like to do some yogurt parfaits or oatmeal, maybe avocado toast,” she said. “Just easy, grab-and-go-kind of things.”

She added that they are also considering hosting live music or an open mic night, something CoHo frequently did.

“We’re open to all of that,” Wilcox said, “but we haven’t set anything up yet.”

Wilcox said she and her husband completely renovated the building by themselves. It took them six weeks, as they are still currently running their location in Station Square.

“It was an empty building, so we started from square one,” she said. “But the response has been great. People come in, and they look around and say, ‘Oh, it looks so different.’ It’s been wonderful.”

She added that the increased space has led to the opportunity for longer customer engagement.

“It’s nice for people to be able to come in and have a place to sit all together rather than getting their coffee and going somewhere else,” Wilcox said. “So that’s been great.”

A Different Cup will also remain open at the Station Square location at least until their one-year lease is up, and Wilcox said they may decide to keep both locations. However, she said the South Fourth Avenue location, at least, will likely be their final move.

“I think so,” she said. “I hope so. Moving’s not easy.”
