As the holiday season arrives and we gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving and the celebrations ahead, let’s take a moment to reflect on what makes our corner of Idaho such a remarkable place to live, work and grow.

We are truly blessed to call the Pocatello area and Portneuf Valley home. Our region’s infrastructure connects us to the world while keeping us rooted in community. Pocatello Regional Airport links us to major markets and brings loved ones home for the holidays. The intersection of Interstates 15 and 86 doesn’t just facilitate commerce—it brings visitors to experience what we’re fortunate enough to enjoy every day.

Pocatello’s role as an important rail hub for Union Pacific reminds us of the generations who built this community through hard work and vision. Those railroad ties connect us to our history while supporting the industries that provide good jobs for our neighbors today.

We’re blessed to have Idaho State University as part of our community’s fabric. ISU doesn’t just educate students—it enriches all our lives. The university brings energy, fresh perspectives and opportunities that make this a place where young people want to stay and build their futures. ISU graduates become our teachers, health care providers, business leaders and neighbors, creating a cycle of homegrown talent that makes us stronger.

The presence of Portneuf Medical Center provides not just excellent health care, but peace of mind. We’re grateful that when illness or injury strikes, world-class care is minutes away. We’re thankful for the doctors, nurses and health care workers who care for us, deliver our babies and help us heal.

Perhaps our greatest blessing is what lies just outside our doors. The Portneuf Wellness Complex provides gathering spaces and recreational opportunities for families and friends to spend quality time together. The City Creek and Portneuf Greenway trails give us nearby places to clear our heads and reconnect with nature.

Winter transforms our backyard into a playground. Pebble Creek Ski Area delivers mountain magic just 20 minutes from home. We’re grateful that our children can learn to ski without breaking the family budget, that fresh powder and mountain views are available to us all.

We’re fortunate to have Lava Hot Springs just down the road—a place to soak away stress in natural hot pools, tube the river on summer days and enjoy a weekend getaway without traveling far from home.

These blessings combine to create something money can’t buy: a place where families can actually build the life they imagine. Housing remains affordable compared to the rest of the nation. Kids can play outside until dinner. Parents can make it to soccer games without battling traffic. We can build equity while building community—a combination growing rarer across America.

These economic strengths—our strategic location, multimodal transportation, university, health care system and quality of life—position us for a bright future. As companies seek communities with both infrastructure and talent, as families look for places where opportunity meets affordability, our region stands ready. The foundations laid by previous generations give us confidence that our best days lie ahead.
