A Kentucky State University women’s basketball player was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement when she arrived at the airport in Louisville to fly to New York for a tournament. Her attorney says 26-year-old Aminata Seck is from Senegal and is in the United States on a student visa. Sadiqa Reynolds wrote that Seck was detained on Aug. 7 at Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport. The Louisville Courier Journal, which first reported Seck’s arrest, wrote that Reynolds said Seck may have missed a student visa deadline because she was having back surgery, and that she also has an ACL injury.

A Democratic congressman says a Venezuelan man shot by a federal immigration officer in Texas has been told by a specialist he needs surgery to remove a bullet near his spine. Wilber Rafael Garces Perez was taken to an ICE detention center hours after he was shot Sunday. U.S. Rep. Greg Casar says the 28-year-old is in constant pain with a bloody wound. He was shot while making a DoorDash delivery in Austin. ICE has not explained the shooting, only saying the incident was a "targeted vehicle stop." It follows a summer of increased ICE enforcement in Austin, with over 1,000 arrests, mostly of immigrants without criminal records.

The attorney for a Venezuelan man shot by a federal immigration officer in Texas says he's back in an ICE detention center after being taken to a hospital for a second time. Wilber Rafael Garces Perez was being held Tuesday at a federal center in South Texas. His attorney says Perez was making a DoorDash delivery Sunday in Austin when immigration officers in an unmarked vehicle sideswiped his car and forced it to stop. Perez was shot and taken to a hospital. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
