Highland senior defensive tackle Tommy Togiai announced Tuesday on Twitter his commitment to play football at Ohio State.

The four-star recruit made the announcement following an in-home visit Tuesday from Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and defensive line coach Larry Johnson. Togiai visited Ohio State on July 28th for the school's Friday Night Lights recruiting event.
Togiai graduated in November and will begin classes Jan. 8, 2018 at Ohio State. He will also play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 6, 2018 in the Alamodome in San Antonio.
"He's just a tremendous player," Highland head coach Gino Mariani said. "His strength is his No. 1 attribute. He's as strong as most guys going to the (NFL) right now. When you add that with his speed and intuition on the field, it's a great combination."
Togiai is the second-best player in Idaho and 126th best in the class of 2018, according to 247sports.com. He is the third defensive tackle commit in Ohio State's 2018 class, which is ranked No. 1, according to 247sports.com.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Togiai chose the Buckeyes over offers from Washington, USC and others. Togiai visited Washington on Oct. 7 for the Huskies' game against California.
"Meyer is getting the best of the best," Highland defensive coordinator Nick Sorrell said. "Tommy is so physical and his football IQ is off the charts. That is going to surprise some people when he gets there. He has a knack to play the game. They are getting a special player."
Togiai was named Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year and the 5A District 5-6 Player of the Year after totaling 93 tackles and 11 sacks this season while leading the Rams to a 5A state championship.
He finished his football career with 246 tackles, the second-most tackles in the program's history. His 11 sacks this season were also the fourth most in the program's history.
"He is a one-in-a lifetime player," Sorrell said. "He works hard. He is a great leader. He is a great kid on and off the field. Nothing is too big for him. It was fun to see him grow."
Togiai will sign his National Letter on Intent on Dec. 20, the day the NCAA’s early football signing period begins.
