Highland's Sam Liday runs into two Pocatello defenders in a game last year at Holt Arena. 

Highland, Shelley, Snake River, Aberdeen, Bear Lake and Firth are all ranked in the preseason high school football media poll, released Thursday.

The Rams are the fourth-ranked team in 5A after last season's 6-4 record. Highland returns 11 starters, including star defensive tackle Tommy Togiai.

2016 3A state runner-up Shelley is the classification's second-ranked team, while Snake River tied with Homedale for the No. 4 spot. The Panthers received one first-place vote.

Aberdeen is No. 2 in 2A, two points behind preseason favorite Declo. Both teams received four first-place votes. Bear Lake and Firth and No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. 

Blackfoot (4A), Grace (1A DI) and Rockland (1A DII) received votes in their respective classifications, but were not ranked.
