Highland defensive tackle Tommy Togiai was named the 5A All-Idaho football Player of the Year by the state’s 5A coaches. The 5A, 4A 3A, 2A and 1A DI and IA DII All-Idaho Players of the Year were announced Wednesday by the Idaho Statesman.
Togiai had 93 tackles and 11 sacks this season while leading the Rams to a 5A state championship.
Togiai finished his four-year varsity career with 246 tackles, the second-most tackles in the program’s history. His 11 sacks this season were also the fourth-most by a Ram in a season.
On his Twitter account Tuesday, Togiai announced his commitment to play at Ohio State. He chose the Buckeyes over offers from Washington, USC and others.
On Monday, Togiai was named Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year, on top of being tabbed the 5A District 5-6 Player of the Year.
Minico’s Larry Vega was named the 4A All-Idaho Player of the Year, Fruitland’s Jordan Eggers was the 3A All-Idaho Player of the Year, Declo’s Keegan Duncan was the 2A All-Idaho Player of the Year, Genesee’s Edward Becker was the 1A DI All-Idaho Player of the Year and Carey’s Porter Mecham was the 1A DII All-Idaho Player of the Year.
