A combination of rain, sleet and snow caused over a dozen car crashes in Rexburg on Monday.

“Officers handled 13 crashes,” reported Rexburg Police Officers on their Facebook page. “Ten of those crashes were between noon and about 3 p.m. when the weather was worst.”

There were also numerous reports of slide offs and stuck vehicles, officers reported.

“It was a chaotic day,” officers reported.

Rexburg Assistant Police Chief Gary Hagan said there were a few scrapes and abrasions.

“Very minor injuries,” he said.

In the midst of the chaos, police handled ongoing other calls such as those for missing kids, drug calls, fights and mental health situations, they said.

“Thank you for your patience on days like this when we are spread thin,” officers reported.

The National Weather Service reports that the rest of the week from now through Saturday, the region will experience “mostly sunny days.” Yet, the weekend forecast calls for a “slight chance” of a mix of rain and snow.
