A judge in Iowa has dismissed President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against The Des Moines Register and its former pollster. Trump sued in December 2024, accusing pollster J. Ann Selzer and the Iowa newspaper of publishing a survey that misrepresented the state of the presidential race that year. District Judge Scott J. Beattie on Wednesday rejected the president’s claim that the poll violated Iowa’s consumer fraud law by deliberately misleading consumers. Selzer and the Register said the lawsuit promotes a conspiracy theory.
The practice of allowing a doctor to help terminally ill patients end their lives with medication has been legalized in recent years in several countries worldwide. In the U.S., Illinois and New York have become the latest states to join an accelerating pace in legislation approving medically assisted dying. Pope Leo XIV says he’s “very disappointed” that his home state of Illinois approved the law that’s condemned by the Catholic Church. But polls show that most Americans — across different faiths — don’t have moral objections to medical aid in dying.
