A Paris court has sentenced Loïk Le Priol to 26 years in jail for the murder of former Argentina rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú while Romain Bouvier was given 19 years in prison for attempted murder. Aramburú was killed in March 2022 after leaving a bar in Paris with a friend following a brawl with Le Priol and Bouvier. The Advocate General had earlier requested 27 years jail for Le Priol and 20 for Bouvier. They were cleared of premeditation. Lyson Rochemir, Le Priol’s girlfriend at the time, received a six-month jail term with a further 2 1/2-year suspended sentence for concealment and destroying evidence.
A New Mexico jury has found Facebook liable of deceiving users about privacy protections on the social media platform. The verdict arrived Friday, the latest legal setback that has already cost the company billions of dollars. It is now up to the judge to determine how much the company would pay. Attorneys representing the state are asking for the maximum $5,000 penalty per violation. The two-week trial centered on accusations that Facebook deceived users about a data breach stemming from a third-party personality quiz that harvested data from roughly 87 million profiles and sold it to a political consulting firm, Cambridge Analytica, to generate targeted ads. The now-defunct firm’s clients included the 2016 campaign for Donald Trump.
New Jersey’s Democratic lieutenant governor has resigned after being pushed out by the governor over accusations of ethics lapses and inappropriate behavior with women. Gov. Mikie Sherrill had given Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell an ultimatum to resign by Friday, a day after a law firm she hired issued a report on the alleged misconduct. Caldwell denies the accusations and says he suspects he's being scrutinized because he's a single Black man. Republicans have hammered Sherrill for weeks on the investigation into Caldwell, who served as acting governor in her absence. He is a Methodist pastor and former university president.
Manchester City plans to fight the Premier League for months if found guilty of alleged financial breaches. Media reports say an independent panel has upheld nearly all of the 100-plus financial charges against the club that were put forth more than three years ago. City has not confirmed the decision, saying its case with the Premier League is “ongoing” and yet to be completed. City, however, would appeal a guilty decision and the process would take several months, a person with knowledge of the situation has told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to respect confidentiality elements of the process.

The Athletic and the BBC have reported that City has been found guilty of nearly all of the financial charges laid by the league. A Mississippi grand jury earlier this week declined to recommend charges, saying Wells’ death after a boat trip to a July 4 party on a barrier island was “consistent with drowning.” The high-profile death in a Deep South state with a history of racial tension has sparked rampant speculation and suspicion.
Florida authorities arrest NC State's ex-head trainer accused of sex abuse of Wolfpack male athletes
N.C. State’s former director of sports medicine faces felony and misdemeanor criminal charges after being accused of sexually abusing former Wolfpack male athletes under the guise of treatment. Authorities in Florida arrested Robert M. Murphy Jr. on Wednesday night. He was being held on out-of-state fugitive warrants from North Carolina. Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman says a grand jury indicted Murphy on nine felony counts of sexual contact under pretext of medical treatment and 23 counts of sexual battery. More than 30 athletes have accused Murphy of misconduct in civil lawsuits dating to 2022.
Venezuela’s acting president has delivered her first address to the U.N. General Assembly since coming to power. She's promising elections and says the nation’s people will determine the “right moment.” Delcy Rodriguez says her government has started a “political dialogue with opposition sectors” to secure a “process based on equal conditions for all.” Rodríguez said that when the time comes, the country’s institutions “will be prepared to guarantee an inclusive and transparent process.” Rodríguez took over in Venezuela after a surprise U.S. military raid in January that captured then-leader Nicolás Maduro and brought him to the United States to face drug trafficking charges.
Police in London have said English cricket player Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape. The 24-year-old Das plays for county team Essex. The Metropolitan Police says in a statement that he was arrested on Aug. 27, 2025, following an investigation into reports that a woman was raped in Brixton in London on March 30, 2024. The police force says Das was charged with two counts of rape on July 23 this year. It says he attended Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Sept. 11 and will appear at Inner London Crown Court on Oct. 9.
An attorney for former NFL star wide receiver Antonio Brown says he plans to accept a plea deal for a reduced charge in an attempted murder case in Miami that avoids prison. Brown is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday to make the deal final. He could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted of the current attempted murder charge. Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer after a celebrity boxing match in Miami in May 2025 and firing two shots at a man he had gotten into a fistfight with earlier, according to an arrest warrant. Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck.
