Hurricane Nolo has just skirted the Hawaiian Islands as it gained intensity. But officials say it still poses a risk for flash floods, dangerous winds and extreme surf in areas recovering from previous storms. Nolo was churning slowly south of Hawaii’s Big Island on Saturday with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. The storm’s center was about 165 miles south of Hawaii’s southernmost point and could strengthen into a potentially life-threatening and catastrophic storm through the weekend. Hawaiians are still recovering from recent hurricanes Lala and Lowell.
