In St. Anthony, there is a family shop that holds more than rocks. There, a customer can visit a chiropractor, a massage therapist and look at obsidian knives, crystals from around the world, fossils and Tibetan jewelry. And if you don’t want to go in person, you can visit their website.
Maria Price was a single mother of three for five years when she met her husband, and they married in 2005. He’s a chiropractor, and she’s a massage therapist. Their business is called Yellowstone Gem World, and it’s located on Bridge Street in St. Anthony.
Maria Price said they homeschool their four children and decided to allow them to each have a part of the business. They make their own business decisions and deals, and although they’ve made mistakes in the past, it’s helped them grow. The mother said that allowing her children to take care of their own business endeavors has allowed them to gain important life skills and meet people from all around the world.
Her son Eli makes obsidian knives, her daughter Madelyn handles the online store and website, her other daughter Jocie makes Tibetan jewelry and is in-charge of a kiosk at the mall in Idaho Falls. Their youngest daughter, Ashlyn, who is 12, acquires and sells crystals from around the world. She’s been working with crystals since she was 9 years old.
Ashlyn was at a rock show with her family while Eli Price was selling his knives. That was when she met a mining company from Arkansas that was selling crystals. She worked for them sweeping and dusting, arranging and occasionally selling crystals. They gave her a few bucks at first, but by the end of the show she had acquired about $300. Instead of keeping it, she turned the money over and entered into a business deal with the mining company. Now she’s 12, and they’re a supplier for her. She also has suppliers and friends who supply her with sometimes literal buckets full of crystals from Uruguay, Pakistan, New Zealand, Peru, Madagascar, Morocco, Brazil, Tibet, Alaska, Poland, Russia and the U.S.
Maria Price said that she’s loved watching her children grow and experience different cultures from around the globe. She said it’s been fun to learn about rocks and crystals with her children.
“I think rocks are extremely magical because you have to have the right type of weather, the right type of temperature, the right type of time in order for you to find that certain type of mineral and all the minerals are so different,” Maria Price said. “What you find in Uruguay, you’re not gonna find here, and I think that’s just fascinating.”
Maria Price said that they love having their business in St. Anthony and encourage people to come by and take a look at their crystals or come in just to relax. She said they try to keep fountains going and make the atmosphere calm and soothing for those looking for a place to relax for a minute.
