Boise’s most iconic music, arts and entertainment event is a little more than a month away, and for its 14th year, Treefort Music Fest is adding a new feature to its official app.
As of this past weekend, festival-goers can now engage with Roster, an interactive swipe-based tool designed to help attendees find their preferred sounds among this year’s lineup — “swipe right to stack your Roster, and swipe left to skip an artist,” a Treefort news release states.
It will now also be easier to put a favorite artist on one’s personal Treefort agenda — under the app’s Schedule section, one can double-tap a liked artist to add their performance to the schedule.
Additionally, Treefort announced its last rollout of artists coming to town for the musical showcase, which is scheduled for March 25-29. Included in the final drop are the following bands, described by the Treefort website:
TOODY COLE & HER BAND
Toody Cole, a garage rock icon and co-founder of the band Dead Moon, presents Toody Cole & Her Band. With her husband and creative partner Fred Cole, Toody Cole has blended original ‘60s American garage rock with later punk, garage and early grunge movements.
BUILT TO SPILL
Built to Spill was formed in Boise by guitarist/vocalist Doug Martsch. They are known well for their rotating lineup, and currently have Melanie Radford on bass and Teresa Esguerra on drums.
VENUS & THE FLYTRAPS
Thinking of themselves as the indie-pop scene’s “annoying little sister,” Venus & the Flytraps create sharp and lively indie rock about love, “mommy issues” and the struggles of growing up. Best friends Ceci Tome and Brenna Kassis are its core members, with their sound being influenced by early 2000s music from their childhoods.
ANDY FRASCO & THE U.N.
Andy Frasco and the U.N. is a group that has a unique onstage presence. This jam band tells the story of the vulnerability of the human experience through multiple different genres with positivity and power.
CECE COAKLEY
Singer-songwriter Cece Coakley blends indie pop, folk and a country influence into music that “feels like a warm hug from grandma.” At 23 years old, Coakley has made a name for herself as an artist and songwriter in the indie music scene. Coakley has spent most of her career on the road supporting different artists like Medium Build, Stephen Sanchez, Field Guide and Hazlett and Nell Mescal.
CURE FOR PARANOIA
Cure For Paranoia is creating new boundaries for modern rap, with their musicians having a bold energy that is described as “aggressively funky.” They blend strong instrumentals with sharp lyrics to uplift their listeners, and aren’t afraid to speak their minds.
DJ MARO
DJ MARO is a producer and DJ who combines tech house with melodic techno and dance club energy to deliver an intense and exciting experience. She creates unexpected moments throughout her sets which keeps listeners on their toes.
LEX LEOSIS
Lex Leosis is a “jack-of-all-trades” in the hip-hop world, dabbling in a range of genres like hip-hop, jazz, funk and pop. Leosis started her career participating in rap competitions before creating her own hip-hop group The Sorority. Holding space for various causes as well as using her platform to support women and non-binary artists and creatives is something that sets her apart in her industry.
ELEPHANT KIND
Elephant Kind is an Indonesian alt-pop band that was well known in the Indonesian indie circuit before moving into the world view by supporting bands like XX and Franz Ferdinand. They focused on staying true to their Indonesian roots with their third studio album “More Time” focusing on topics like transformation, longing, and the pursuit of purpose in the “ever-accelerating world.”
This year’s Treefort festival will host 222 artists and among the headliners are “Flipturn, The Beaches, Samia and Blondshell on Thursday; Magdalena Bay, Inji, Hemlocke Springs and Evan Honer on Friday; Geese, Mother Mother, St. Paul & the Broken Bones and Maddie Zahm on Saturday; and Father John Misty, Amber Mark and Yellow Days on Sunday,” according to the Treefort website.
Main stage acts will perform at Julia Davis Park, with the rest of the festival spread through downtown Boise.
