BOISE — A Meridian man has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison after he was convicted of stabbing his wife 26 times.
Juan Diego Ramos Lopez, 47, must serve at least 15 and up to 30 years in prison for the Nov. 16, 2025 attack at his home while four children were present, according to releases from the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office and Meridian Police Department.
The releases state that Ramos Lopez — at around 7:25 a.m. on the morning of the attack — stabbed his wife in the head, face, neck, arm and chest, telling her he was going to kill her. Four of the couple’s children were home at the time, according to the releases, and their 16-year-old child struck Ramos Lopez to stop the attack and called 911.
After the attack — which Ramos Lopez’s wife survived — Ramos Lopez fled to Oregon, where he turned himself into Oregon State Police in La Grande. Oregon State Police reported that Ramos Lopez still had blood on his hands and was in possession of the knife he used in the attack. He also admitted to officers that he had stabbed his wife and that she might be dead.
The releases state that Ramos Lopez has a long history of domestic violence offenses and was on supervised felony probation at the time of the attack. He was convicted on July 6 of domestic violence in the presence of a child, with a sentencing enhancement for infliction of great bodily injury.
Ramos Lopes may be eligible for parole after serving 15 years of his sentence.
“I don’t know that there could be a more serious offense, unless your victim had died,” Ada County District Judge Nancy Baskin told Ramos Lopez at his sentencing hearing. “You don’t get to stab the woman you love 26 times in the presence of your children. You continue to present a risk to those you claim to care for … you are a clear and present danger.”
