POCATELLO — An intense police manhunt is underway for the individual who shot a man in downtown Pocatello early Sunday morning.
Police said both the shooter and victim were on foot in the area of Second Avenue and East Center Street when the 2 a.m. shooting occurred.
The victim was shot twice but is expected to survive, police said.
Pocatello police said their investigation remains ongoing but at this point they do not feel that the shooting was a random event.
No description of the suspect has yet been provided.
Pocatello police officers were on patrol when they found the victim lying in the roadway near the Second Avenue and East Center intersection and immediately provided medical aid. The victim was then transported via Pocatello Fire Department ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released.
Police said it’s likely he was found in the roadway by the officers minutes after the shooting occurred.
Police said they initially thought that the shooting might be related to another gunfire incident that occurred the week prior in the same area. No one was injured in that earlier incident, police said.
However, police reported Sunday evening that their investigation had revealed the two incidents were not related and that the early Sunday morning shooting was a completely isolated incident.
Pocatello police said in a news release that they have “dedicated all available resources to the case” and they are asking the public for help with the investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to contact the Pocatello Police Department immediately at 208-234-6100.
