Sen. James Ruchti, Rep. Nate Roberts and Mary Shea are excited to announce their campaigns for Legislative District 29. Incumbents Sen. James Ruchti and Rep. Nate Roberts (Seat B) are running for reelection. Mary Shea is running for the Idaho House, District 29, Seat A against incumbent Rep. Manwaring.
Sen. James Ruchti is approaching eight years of experience in the Idaho Legislature. Ruchti is a West Point graduate, veteran, trial attorney, small business owner, fifth-generation Idahoan and a Pocatello native. He served in the Idaho Legislature from 2006-10 and returned to the Legislature in 2020. He looks forward to continuing his service as Pocatello’s state senator. Upon filing, Ruchti said: “I love this job. It gives me a chance to work for Pocatello families on issues that have a real impact on their lives — education, good jobs and quality of life. I have spent a lifetime committed to this community. I love this place and want the best for Pocatello and Idaho.”
Rep. Nate Roberts, an electrician and elected union officer, is passionate about workers, health care and education. Roberts strives to improve living conditions for everyday Idahoans, especially blue-collar workers. When filing, Roberts said, “I believe in the idea that hard work earns a fair opportunity, in viewing others as equals and in serving my community because it is others’ home as much as it is mine.”
Mary Shea is a lawyer and certified child welfare law specialist. She serves the families of Bannock County by working as a public defender and Court Appointed Special Advocate lawyer volunteer in the juvenile court system, and by volunteering for many other good causes in this community and throughout the state of Idaho. Shea led and was the primary instructor for the paralegal studies program at Idaho State University from 2010-2017. While filing, Shea said: “Supermajority rule has resulted in divisive, regressive policy and culture war politics. I see too much party infighting, backroom deals and poison pill bare minimum efforts at addressing the real needs of Idahoans. We need more balance in our Statehouse. I share the views of both James Ruchti and Nate Roberts. I promise to bring a vision for Idaho that treats everyone with respect and dignity while holding the government accountable for how your hard-earned money is being spent in Boise.”
Sen. James Ruchti, Rep. Nate Roberts and Mary Shea invite you to a campaign kick-off event on April 20 at 3 p.m. at the ISU Alumni Center.
Sen. James Ruchti said: “I am proud to endorse, fully support and campaign alongside two exceptional Pocatellans. I know they will represent Pocatello with passion and dignity and will work towards building an Idaho that prepares us for the future, incentivizes our kids and grandkids to make their homes here, and prioritizes everyday Idahoans over special interests.”
