Taysom Hill started at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints on Friday at home against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2 of the NFL preseason. The Cardinals beat the Saints 20-15. 

Hill completed 11 of 15 passes for 68 yards and two interceptions in two quarters of action. He also fumbled three times, losing two of them. Hill broke down the sideline in the second quarter for a 43-yard gain, which equaled his rushing total for the game. His 43 yards on the ground were also a game high. 

In the Saints' preseason Week-1 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the BYU and Highland High alumnus was 8 of 9 passing for 72 yards, and he ran seven times for 52 yards and one touchdown

Hill played in the first half Friday before Tom Savage started the second half. The two are in a competition to be the Saints' No. 2 quarterback. Savage completed 6 of 7 passes for 53 yards and no touchdowns. 

Hill's teammate and Idaho State graduate Josh Hill was not targeted in the loss. 

New Orleans (1-1) continues preseason play Aug. 25 at the Los Angeles Chargers.

PEARSON TARGETED

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Colby Pearson, a BYU and Blackfoot High alumnus, was targeted once Friday at home against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs won 28-14.

Pearson was targeted on a third-down play in the fourth quarter by quarterback Kurt Benkert, but could not bring in the pass.

The Falcons (0-2) continue preseason play Aug. 25 at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks struggled to generate points in a 24-14 loss at the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday.

Seattle scored its only touchdown in the fourth quarter on Alex McGough's 12-yard pass to Malik Turner. The Seahawks' other six points were on first-quarter field goals.

Seattle offensive lineman and Idaho State alumnus Skyler Phillips logged playing time as a backup.

Seattle (0-2) plays Friday at Minnesota.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used a 17-point second quarter to blow past the Tennessee Titans in Saturday's 30-14 road win.

Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston, who had two second-quarter passing TDs, completed 13 of 18 passes for 226 yards.

Tampa Bay offensive lineman and Idaho State alumnus Evan Smith played, but did not start.

The Buccaneers (2-0) host the Detroit Lions on Friday.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals erased a 10-0 halftime deficit in a 21-13 win Saturday at the Dallas Cowboys.

Bengals quarterbacks Jeff Driskel, Matt Barkley and Andy Dalton prospered, combining to complete 18 of 27 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown.

The Bengals (2-0) play Aug. 26 at the Buffalo Bills.
