HYRUM, Utah — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report Friday night from a local resident in Hyrum, who discovered what appeared to be old military ordnance buried on his property.
The ordnance has been determined to be inert, according to Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Ramirez.
Deputies confirmed the object’s appearance suggested it could be military ordnance.
To ensure public safety, deputies evacuated nearby homes as a precaution.
The Sheriff’s Office coordinated with Hill Air Force Base, whose explosive ordnance disposal team determined the ordnance is no longer a danger to the community.
Residents are safe to return to their homes.
