Kaela Marshall of Fairview, a small community near Preston, spends her summers at a relative’s Alaskan fishing lodge in Elfin Cove where she fillets and packages lots of fish for guests.

This week when her aunt radioed the dock saying there were “some special guests” to process fish for, the crew weren’t expecting the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Russel M. Nelson, to step off the boat.

“It’s not every day you get to meet the prophet, or better yet he comes to you,” Marshall said. “I was waiting for our guests to come in for the night when suddenly one of the staff comes running saying very excitedly, ‘The prophet is here, the prophet is here!’ In my mind I was trying to think of another prophet because there was no way that it was our prophet in Elfin Cove. Let’s just say I have never run so fast in my life to go meet him.”

Nelson and Elder Ronald A. Rasband were traveling together. They were in the area to address members of a branch of the church there. Marshall said President Nelson took the time to shake hands with each member of the staff and take pictures with them.

Elder Rasband visited with several of them, telling them “how lucky we were to have the chance to meet President Nelson because normally when he meets people it is in congregations of thousands of people, but here it was the 20 of us members in the cove,” said Marshall.

She continued, “It was such a neat experience to meet the prophet and Elder Rasband — something that I’ll cherish forever.”
