The body of a 20-year-old Idaho Falls male reported missing last Wednesday was found floating in an Idaho Falls canal Monday afternoon by emergency responders near Ninth Street and SW Bonneville.
Personnel from Idaho Falls Fire, Idaho Falls Police and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of Tayson Paul Thomas following a report of the body in a canal near First Street at 1:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Bryan Lovell, Bonneville County Sheriff’s spokesman.
Deputies on scene identified the victim and began contacting family to make notifications, Lovell said. Bonneville County Coroner Shante Sanchez was also contacted and responded to the scene. The cause of death remains under investigation.
Thomas was last seen him running away from the area of the On The Run Truck Stop near Iona Road and North Holmes in the early morning hours of June 7, Lovell said.
Deputies were told that Thomas fled the area after seeing a police car to avoid being arrested for an active warrant, Lovell said. Friends located his phone later that day at a nearby residence on Lewisville Highway.
Deputies conducted an extensive search of the area where his cell phone was found but could not locate him, Lovell said.
Deputies are continuing to investigate, and no further information is available at this time, Lovell said.
