POCATELLO — A new maternity clothing store has opened in Pocatello for mothers looking for quality clothing for themselves and their babies.

Lauren Egbert, the owner of Moonchild Maternity, said the store is located at 387 Yellowstone Ave. A ribbon-cutting was held Tuesday with the Chamber of Commerce.

"I opened the store in September," Egbert said.

Egbert wanted to open the store after having her second child, who has a 15-year age gap with her first child. She had no maternity clothes to wear during this time.

"There were no stores that carry maternity clothes," Egbert said. "I wanted to give back to the community."

At Moonchild Maternity, new parents can find clothing and other essentials needed for babies, such as diapers, wipes and formula. The store is partnered with nonprofit organization Shared With Love Foundation, so every purchase will benefit a mother in need.

"We make sure moms have the support they need," Egbert said. "I have vendors that sell homemade gifts. They're all local moms trying to make money while staying home with their kids."

For baby clothing, Moonchild offers an exchange program where customers can get store credit. This can be useful for parents with rapidly growing babies.

"A woman brought in three-month-old clothing and exchanged it for nine-month-old clothing," Egbert said.

There has been a lot of interest in Moonchild Maternity so far. Local women have been excited to have a local store that offers what they need for pregnancy and beyond.

"We have postpartum supplies," Egbert said. "It's an entire shelf for free."

Egbert said she already has plans for the store's future. The back of the store features a warehouse that she hopes to convert into a meeting room for anything from lactation consultations to mommy-and-me classes.

"We want moms to be able to bring their kids," Egbert said. "It will be available for anyone to use. It's the perfect spot for a meeting room."
