After leading Shelley to its second straight state title, quarterback Kaden Schmitt was named the 3A Player of the Year.
The Russets finished an 11-1 season that culminated with a 17-14 victory over Fruitland for the state championship.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Schmitt threw for 2,394 yards and 30 touchdowns to just nine interceptions this season. He added 612 yards and nine more touchdowns on the ground.
“It feels amazing. Last year was special, but to be the first ones (to get back-to-back championships) ups the level,” Schmitt said.
Five other Russets were named the All-Idaho 3A first team. They are senior tight end Dalton Nelson, junior offensive lineman Cole Harker, senior defensive lineman Trevor Smith, senior linebacker Haydyn Walker and senior defensive back Taylor Lund.
Senior running back Randy Bauer, senior wide receiver Josh Peterson, senior offensive lineman Matt Wells and senior defensive lineman Lincoln Archibald earned second team honors.
At the 5A level, state runner-up Highland dominated with eight players on the first team. The next closest teams — Rocky Mountain and Coeur d’Alene —had five players apiece.
Senior quarterback Tommy Jewell, senior running back Thad Hansen, senior offensive lineman Bo Burrup, junior offensive lineman Tristen Hoge, senior kicker Dallan Rodriguez, junior linebacker Kyler Manu, senior linebacker Danny Rasmussen and sophomore defensive back Greg Gwinn were the players honored on the first team.
“It’s great for the Highland program to have so many players recognized,” said Rams head coach Gino Mariani.
Two other Rams were named to the second team in senior running back Christian Atkinson and senior defensive lineman Kaigan Young.
Century landed two players on the 4A first team, both seniors and on the defensive side of the ball. Linebacker Austin Ferguson and DB Tyler Holm earned the honors.
Offensive lineman Kolton Schultz was on the second team.
The 2A classification had numerous players named to the all-state team.
Senior running back Connor Montgomery, senior offensive lineman Coltyr Brewington, junior defensive lineman Dallan Bingham and junior defensive back Jackson Thompson earned the honors for Firth.
Senior running back Trevor Montes, senior offensive lineman Jake Lind, junior defensive lineman Neils Stegelmeier, senior linebacker Coby Roholt and senior defensive back Karson Alder were on the first team from West Side.
Senior tight end Hunter Belnap of Soda Springs was on the first team as were Malad senior wide receiver Brody Hubbard and Aberdeen senior kicker Abraham Torres.
Senior wide receiver Dalton Cate, senior defensive lineman Kaden Miles, senior offensive lineman Coltyr Brewington and senior defensive back, all from Firth, were named to the second team. Aberdeen sophomore punter Hilario Carrillo was on the second team as well.
