SODA SPRINGS 28, MALAD 8

Devin Adams ran for three touchdowns and the Cardinals picked up their first win of the season, 28-8,

over Malad on Friday at home.

Adams, Soda’s quarterback, completed 11 of 20 passes for 82 yards and a score and picked up 104 rushing yards.

“Just ran the ball hard and found some creases in the defense,” said Cardinals coach Cliff Garbett. “We were able to make some plays. It was just good all the way around.”

Malad rushed for 178 yards on 34 attempts. Cal Willie hit Bracken Degn late in the fourth quarter for the Dragons’ lone score.

Soda Springs (1-4, 1-1 2A District 5) plays Friday at Declo. Malad (1-5, 0-2) hosts West Side.

BLACKFOOT 54, BONNEVILLE 20

The Broncos snapped a two-game losing skid with a 54-20 rout of Bonneville on Thursday at home.

Jager Leavitt ran for 123 yards and a score, Jode Stephenson caught two passes for 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Pacen Hayes completed 7 of 22 passes for 120 yards, two TDs and three interceptions.

Blackfoot (2-4, 0-1 4A District 5-6) plays Friday at Preston.

SOUTH FREMONT 46, MARSH VALLEY 12

After a scoreless first quarter, South Fremont dumped 33 points on Marsh Valley in the second and cruised to a 46-12 win Friday at home.

Caden May scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter and the Eagles added a score in the fourth.

Marsh Valley (2-4) has lost four straight. The Eagles have a bye before taking on district foe American Falls on Oct. 16 on the road.

WEST SIDE 38, BEAR LAKE 0

The Pirates ran their winning streak to 18 games with a 38-0 shutout of Bear Lake on Friday at home.

Peyton Brown tossed two touchdowns and Josh King threw another. King also caught two passes for 83 yards and a score, and four different West Side players found pay dirt.

The Pirates (6-0, 2-0 2A District 5) play Friday at Malad.

FIRTH 20, SALMON 0

Brodie Cate threw three touchdowns and Firth downed Salmon 20-0 Friday at Salmon.

The Cougars senior QB hit Connor Burkhart, Mason Giles and Lucus Orme while racking up 244 yards through the air. Orme finished with 114 yards on two catches and 59 rushing yards on six carries.

Firth (3-2, 1-0 2A District 6) hosts West Jefferson on Friday.

Claim Jumper Classic Tournament

Century swept its day one opponents at the Claim Jumper Classic Tournament in Utah.

The D-backs took down Judge Memorial (25-20, 25-12), Layton (25-22, 25-10) and Corner Canyon (26-24, 25-18).

Fresh off a win over defending 5A state champ Idaho Falls, Century rolled in its first day at the tourney.

“We came off last night, a pretty tough match with Idaho Falls. Coming into today I was worried we might be a little gassed,” said Century coach Pauline Thiros. “I was very pleased with our second performance (against Layton) and our blocking.”

Zoe Thiros led the way with 22 kills, 19 digs and five aces. Baily Permann added 20 kills and 14 blocks, Lexi Moore doled out 60 assists and Alexis Rifelj led the defense with 20 digs.

Century (25-4) continues play Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

BOYS SOCCER

HIGHLAND 2, HILLCREST 1

The Rams continued to dominate conference opponents with a 2-1 victory over Hillcrest on Friday at home.

Zach Merrell opened the scoring midway through the first half and Jake Denney broke a 1-1 tie late in the second.

Highland (12-1-2, 7-0-2 5A District 5-6) plays Tuesday at Idaho Falls, its final game before the district tournament. The Rams clinched the No. 1 seed and have a first-round bye.
