POCATELLO - The annual LDS Multi-Stake single adult conference will be Nov. 7 at the Alameda Stake Center, 930 E. Alameda Road. Keynote session will begin at 1 p.m. with speakers Elder and Sister Ronald J. Hammond. Elder Hammond has been an area Authority Seventy since 2005 for the church. The Hammonds will speak on topics of their choice at the conference.
Conference workshops, starting at 2:30 p.m. are:
"Family Relations/Self-Confidence:" with William McKee. Brother McKee was born and raised in Inkom and is the third oldest of a family of 10 children. He started his own business at the age of 21, known today as McKee's Pet and Garden Centers. He is a licensed professional counselor and owns and operates Center Counseling. He and his wife, RaNae, are the parents of 10 children and foster parents for more than 40 children the past 20 years. They teach Discovery Training Workshops. McKee has taught at Idaho State University as an adjunct professor at the ISU LDS Institute and he is a former bishop and stake president. Currently, he is the LDS Church public affairs director for Southeastern Idaho.
"Spiritual Preparedness and Self-Confidence:" with Roger S. Porter. Brother Porter was born in Pocatello and raised in Overton, Nev. He began teaching at the ISU LDS Institute in 1969. He served seven years as the director during the land transfer period. He and his wife, Earlene Brown Porter, moved to San Francisco and served as Institute director there, then returned to their home in Chubbuck. They are the parents of seven children and grandparents to 28.
"$ and Sence:" with Janaan Haskell. Sister Haskell is married to Darrel Haskell. She is mother of seven and grandmother of almost 14. She graduated from Ricks College and BYU with a bachelor's degree in child development and family relations. She has a master's degree in education from ISU. She works part-time at ISU as the field director for the Center for Economic Education. She also teaches a one-credit money management course on campus.
"Medical Health:" with Dr. Chris Johnson. Johnson was born in Provo, Utah, .and grew up in Pocatello. He served a mission to Morristown, N.J. He met his sweetheart, Stacy Sutton, at the ISU LDS Institute, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They have six children, one daughter and five sons. Chris currently is a partner at the Idaho Orthopedic and Sports Clinic in Pocatello. He is a team physician for the ISU athletic teams.
A banquet will follow the workshops from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a dance from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m.
The conference will end with an area single adult fireside Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Alameda Stake Center, 930 E. Alameda Road. Featured speaker will be President Edmund M. Axford, stake president of the Pocatello Alameda Stake. He was born in Plymouth, Mass., and joined the LDS Church when he was 17. He works with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, most recently as program manager for the adult and children's mental health program in Southeast Idaho. He and his wife, Susan, have been married for 38 years and are the parents of five daughters, they have 13 grandchildren and two more are on the way. He has served in many LDS Church positions.
