RIGBY — A local man is facing a second-degree murder charge after a fatal shooting at a Rigby home Sunday, according to police.
Tristin Chase, 22, of Rigby, is accused of shooting and killing 43-year-old Rafael Valles of Cedar Creek, Texas, during the incident.
According to a news release from the Rigby Police Department, Jefferson County 911 dispatch received reports of shots fired around noon Sunday in the 1200 block of Ashlyn Way.
Responders arrived to find CPR already in progress on Valles. Despite additional life-saving efforts, he died at the scene, police said.
During the investigation, Rigby police learned from witnesses inside the residence that Chase had shot at the victim before leaving.
Law enforcement notified outside agencies to help locate Chase, who was found and taken into custody just before 1 p.m. during a traffic stop near the 300 block of West First South in Rigby.
Chase is being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
The investigation remains active, according to police, and further details may be released later.
"Our condolences go out to Mr. Valles' family and loved ones," the Rigby Police Department said in the release.
Rigby police thanked the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Idaho State Police, Rexburg Police Department and Central Fire Department for their assistance with the incident.
