FORT HALL — A gray owl was literally fried Friday afternoon when it got tangled up in power lines on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when the owl somehow got caught up in some live wires on Simplot Road east of the Fort Hall town site. The bird caught fire and burned to death.
A Fort Hall police officer spotted the burning bird and called in the Fort Hall Fire Department to extinguish the flames.
The burning owl carcass caused the power lines and a power pole to catch fire as well.
Simplot Road was closed for about 20 minutes while firefighters dealt with the incident.
Idaho Power personnel also responded and had the pole and power lines repaired by 2:30 p.m.
No power outages resulted from the fire.
