A nonprofit healthcare system headquartered in Salt Lake City announced Friday that it plans to become sole owner of Idaho Falls Community Hospital and to acquire part of Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls.

Intermountain Health officials plan to reach agreement with Nashville-based Surgery Partners to buy out their ownership stake in a network of facilities and providers in Southeast Idaho that includes the two hospitals along with more than 60 affiliate clinics that employ about 2,300 physicians and caregivers.

Intermountain Health, Surgery Partners and local physicians have been collaborative owners of the network since 2023.

“Intermountain Health is already an investor in both hospitals and has deep roots in our region,” said James Adamson, CEO of Mountain View Hospital and Community Hospital in a statement released Friday. “They believe in our vision and our teams, and they want to empower us to continue delivering the personalized care our organizations are known for. We believe this growing partnership will bring positive benefits to our patients and our teams, and there will be few noticeable changes on the ground. The intent is for both hospitals to continue to be locally managed, with leadership, jobs and compensation remaining unchanged as part of this deal.”

He continued, “The deal will still undergo all required approvals and regulatory review procedures before it officially closes, but we are excited about this development and the benefits it can bring to our physicians, employees and the wider Eastern Idaho community.”

Intermountain Health operates across the Intermountain West, primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming. It operates dozens of hospitals, hundreds of clinics and an affiliated health insurance plan called Select Health.

According to Intermountain officials, Idaho Falls operations will remain separate and continue to be managed by the existing management team. Existing physicians and affiliated provider groups will maintain responsibility for providing day-to-day care to patients.

The transaction awaits standard closing conditions, regulatory clearances and physician board approvals in the coming months before being finalized. The terms of the sale have not been disclosed.
