POCATELLO - Debra Ellis recalls one football game years ago.

It was the annual Black and Blue Bowl game between Pocatello and Highland high schools.

Unfortunately for Debra and her husband, Kim, the couple were seated on the wrong side. And to make matters worse, Kim shouted a cheer in support for the Indians after witnessing a good play against the team's bitter rival.

"There was a woman who was so stunned that she hit him over the head with her purse, and said 'If you want to root for that team, go to the other side,'" Debra recalled.

Not everyone gets bopped on the head at the annual meet, but one thing is certainly true: The Black and Blue Bowl has plenty of loyal fans and is considered a must-see community event for many Pocatello natives.
