POCATELLO — Portneuf Cancer Center and the Pocatello Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce invite the community to a ribbon-cutting event on Tuesday. The event will take place at the Portneuf Cancer Center on Portneuf’s main campus, 777 Hospital Way in Pocatello, at noon. Light refreshments will be served.
Portneuf Cancer Center will unveil a new addition to its building, which houses the new Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator. The linear accelerator delivers radiation therapy to cancer patients with pinpoint accuracy, precision and speed. Event attendees will be able to tour the addition, see the linear accelerator up close, and interact with Portneuf Cancer Center providers and staff.
“Portneuf is thrilled to add this advanced technology to our Cancer Center,” said Nate Carter, interim CEO and COO of Portneuf Medical Center. “The new linear accelerator is instrumental in the expansion of our radiation therapy program. Our Cancer Center is growing to meet the needs of cancer patients in this region, and we are proud to offer high-quality cancer care here in Southeast Idaho. The care team at the Cancer Center is incredible, both with treating patients and running high-end equipment like this. Having this technology in Pocatello is only possible because of the team that is using it.”
The linear accelerator sends therapeutic X-rays to target a patient’s tumor to destroy cancer cells while sparing surrounding tissue. It generates superior imaging techniques with lower doses of radiation, which makes the treatment time faster and safer for patients.
