Highland’s offense was on full display in its doubleheader sweep of Rigby on Saturday at home. The Rams beat the Trojans 11-1 in five innings and 12-4.

“We were just trying to focus and get ready to make a playoff run,” Highland coach Nick Sorrell said. “Our bats woke up. We made some pretty good adjustments up at the plate.”

Landon Carr went 2 for 2 with four RBIs to lead Highland’s offense in the 11-1 win, and Tyler Wolfenbarger was 3 for 3 in the 12-4 victory.

The Rams (8-14, 4-7 5A District 5-6) host Rigby on Wednesday in a district tournament play-in game.

BLACKFOOT 3, IDAHO FALLS 2

BLACKFOOT 6, IDAHO FALLS 2

Blackfoot used steady pitching and defense to sweep Idaho Falls, 3-2 and 6-2, in a Saturday road doubleheader.

“This is probably our best weekend of three games we’ve played all year,” Broncos coach Liam Pope said. “Solid defense, solid pitching, and we got run support when we needed to for our pitchers.”

Pacen Hayes went 3 for 4 with a double and a home run in Blackfoot’s 6-2 win, and Caleb Wilson was 2 for 2 with two runs in the 3-2 victory.

Blackfoot (13-7, 10-4 4A District 5-6) plays Tuesday at Bonneville.

KIMBERLY 10, AMERICAN FALLS 0 (6)

American Falls was shut out Saturday in a 10-0, six-inning loss at Kimberly.

Garrett Burgmeister had two of the Beavers’ six hits.

American Falls (2-15, 0-3 3A District 5) hosts Soda Springs on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

BLACKFOOT 13, CENTURY 3

Blackfoot extended its winning streak to four games with a 13-3 home win Saturday against Century.

Anicia Luna hit her fourth home run in the last two days, and Hadlie Henderson doubled twice for the Broncos.

Blackfoot (8-4, 4-3 4A District 5-6) plays a doubleheader Monday at Preston. Century (0-17, 0-5 4A District 5-6) hosts Skyline for a Monday doubleheader.

SKYLINE 12, PRESTON 2 (5)

Preston’s first-inning lead was short-lived Saturday in a 12-2, five-inning loss against Skyline. Saydie Garner hit a solo home run to give the Indians a 1-0 lead, but Skyline rallied with seven runs in the second.

“We weren’t able to get our bats going,” Preston coach Larry Morrison said. “We left nine runners on base and didn’t take advantage of people on the bases when we had the opportunity to.”

Preston hosts Blackfoot for a Monday doubleheader.

MALAD 13, SODA SPRINGS 0 (5)

Malad sent its three seniors out with a 13-0, five-inning home win Saturday against Soda Springs. Senior Rachel Green struck out 11 batters from the rubber, while fellow seniors Sami Williams and Kori Peterson each found success at the plate. Williams had two hits, three RBIs and two runs, while Peterson was 1 for 3 with one run.

The Dragons (14-4, 3-2 2A District 5) play Tuesday at Declo.

TENNIS

Capital Invite

Century finished eighth Saturday in the 32-team Capital Invite. The Diamondbacks were the top 4A team, and Adriene Pavek took second place in girls singles.

“A wonderful effort by our team,” D-backs coach Sean Kane said. “Everyone gave their all in the grueling two days.”

Century hosts Skyline and Idaho Falls on Monday.

Gate City Invite

Highland had several winners at Saturday’s Gate City Invite in Chubbuck.

All three girls singles players took first in the four-team tournament, and no Highland singles player or doubles team finished worse than third.

Highland plays Monday at Hillcrest.
