POCATELLO — Firefighters have gotten the upper hand on a wildfire in east Pocatello that threatened multiple structures and caused three homes to be evacuated.

The fire was reported at approximately 5:45 p.m. Friday along Ridgewood Road near Pocatello Creek Road.

Three residences along Ridgewood Road were evacuated shortly after firefighters arrived on scene.

Authorities said the fire, which burned at least 2 acres, was contained by firefighters around 7:45 p.m. and is no longer threatening structures.

Fire crews are expected to remain on the scene overnight mopping up the remnants of the blaze. The residents who were evacuated have been allowed back into their homes.

The fire melted the siding on one house and damaged a shed. The flames got within about 15 yards of the residence with the melted siding.

However, no homes were destroyed and nobody was injured.

The fire also destroyed power lines, knocking out power to more than 30 homes in the Ridgewood Road area and the nearby KOA Campground. The power at these locations is expected to be restored later Friday night.  

Pocatello Creek Road in the area of Satterfield Drive and Ridgewood Road has been closed to vehicular traffic. It's unclear when Pocatello Creek Road will be reopened. 

The Pocatello Fire Department, Chubbuck Fire Department, Pocatello Valley Fire Department, Fort Hall Fire Department and Bureau of Land Management have all responded to the blaze. 

The Pocatello Police Department, Bannock County Sheriff's Office and Bannock County Search and Rescue are also at the scene. 

Fire crews at the scene said the wildfire could have been far worse if multiple fire departments had not been called in to battle the blaze.

At its height, the fire generated smoke that could be seen from miles away. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but authorities said it was likely human-caused.
