BLACKFOOT — Mystery and history. That’s what visitors will find when they stop by the Bingham County Courthouse this week during the territorial sesquicentennial anniversary event. 

The “Idaho at 150” celebration will include a re-enactment of the 1887 murder trial of Alexander Woods, a Pocatello businessman charged with murdering his wife over a suspicion that she was having an affair. 

The reenactment will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Friday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Saturday at 11 a.m. Seating is limited in Courtroom One, so free tickets are required; Bingham County Clerk Sara Staub said Friday’s events are booked, but there are still tickets available for Thursday and Saturday. The sesquicentennial celebration will also include an open house. Staub said there will be display stations featuring historical records throughout the courthouse; there will also be people dressed in period attire. 

The open house will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday; and from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
