CHUBBUCK — When Mattie Nelson learned the local U Med Spa would be closing at the end of September, she decided to take a leap into the world of business ownership.

“I worked at U Med Spa for six years and they were closing,” she said, adding that the owners wanted to make more room for an expanding medical practice. “I took about two hours and thought about it and decided to open my own place. It took off from there.”

And things moved quickly.

Roughly a month after U Med Spa closed, Nelson opened the doors to her new business, Blush Beauty Spa, located at 190 W. Burnside, Suite B, in Chubbuck. She plans to hold an official ribbon cutting in early December.

“It’s really fun and really exciting,” Nelson said, adding that she and her husband, Challis Nelson, have been working hard to get things up and running in recent weeks.

And while the business may be new, the faces are familiar.

Nelson said all but two of the former employees from U Med Spa are working at her new place and many of their clients have transferred over as well.

“We had a good clientele built up at U Med Spa and most followed us right over (here),” she said. “Things are picking back up (and people) are excited to see the new place.”

The Blush Beauty Spa offers eyelash extensions, lifts and tints, Nelson said, adding that her employees are licensed and certified in eyelash extensions — something that’s not required in the state of Idaho and she thinks that sets them apart.

In addition, they offer waxing, dermaplaning, signature facials, massages, manicures and pedicures among other services.

Nelson said they use PHYTOMER products, a marine-based line from France, for their facial treatments, and her employees are known for giving some of the best pedicures in town.

“(We have) a good pedicure following,” she said.
