Wildlife officials in the Rocky Mountain region are reporting far more trouble than usual between black bears and people this summer. Bears are wandering into urban areas, getting trapped in cars, raiding trash cans and sometimes attacking people. Biologists blame a drought for hungry bears moving far beyond their usual range seeking food. Months of dry weather mean fewer berries and other sources of food for bears to eat. Too often of late, they're finding food near people. But bear encounters with humans often end badly for bears. Dozens of the bears have been killed this year so they won't endanger people.
