REXBURG — The two men Rexburg police arrested this week for drug trafficking dialed 911 to admit to the crime before they were even caught, police said.

Leland Ryan Kaimipono Ayala-Doliente, 21, and Craig Sward Holland, 22, dialed 911 to confess they had 20 pounds of marijuana in their possession before any officers actually arrived on the scene.

Someone had already reported that the two suspects were acting suspiciously while parked in their car on Golden Beauty Drive off University Boulevard.

While Rexburg police were en route to the scene, Holland and Ayala-Doliente called 911 and confessed to possessing the marijuana, worth about $16,000.

Rexburg police arrived and found the suspects standing outside their car with a wire dog cage. Inside the dog cage was a bag containing 20 smaller bags of marijuana, each weighing about one pound. Police arrested the pair for drug trafficking, a felony. Holland and Ayala-Doliente are currently being held in Madison County Jail.

Police have not said where Holland and Ayala-Doliente are from, but officers did say the suspects were transporting the marijuana from California to Montana.

Police said the suspects dialed 911 and confessed to possessing the marijuana because they thought they had been discovered by undercover officers, but this was not the case. Rexburg police said they had no idea Holland and Ayala-Doliente were driving through town with 20 pounds of marijuana.

“They thought they were being followed,” police Capt. Randy Lewis said about the suspects.
