It was a little bit tougher than in previous years.

But the result remained the same for the American Falls High School boy soccer team.

It claimed its seventh district title in a row by edging Marsh Valley 2-1 Wednesday in the Class 4A District V final in its own backyard no less.

Jordan Portillo booted in both goals for the Beavers (13-5-1), who haven’t lost to a conference opponent in seven years. They’ve now gone 58 games without a single defeat.

Jaxson Smith had the lone goal for the Eagles, whose season ends at 7-8-5.

POCATELLO 1, CENTURY 0, 2 OT

Shayne Kennedy converted on a Kason Ryerson corner kick with under two minutes left in the second overtime to keep the Thunder’s season alive Thursday in the Class 5A District V final at Century High School.

Pocatello (6-9-3) now forces a winner-take-all game Saturday at Pocatello High School.

It’s the Diamondbacks’ (12-2-2) first loss to a league opponent in more than two years. They had outscored the Thunder 12-3 in their previous three matchups this season, including a 5-0 in districts just a week ago.

HIGHLAND 2, MADISON 1

Isaac Robinson netted a pair of goals and Brody Carter made 10 saves, as the Rams (7-7-4) will live on to play at least another day with a Class 6A District V-VI Tournament elimination win Thursday on the road.

They will now play Canyon Ridge in a winner-to-state game Saturday.

BLACKFOOT 2, HILLCREST 1

Didier Perez and Josiah Ballesteros both found the back of the net, as the Broncos (10-3-2) kept their season alive with a Class 5A District VI Tournament elimination game win Thursday at home.

GIRLS SOCCER

HIGHLAND 5, CANYON RIDGE 0

Devree Bell bagged a pair of goals for the Rams (12-4-1), who extended their district championship streak to four in the Class 6A District V-VI final Thursday at home.

Ashlynn Hale both scored and assisted on a goal. Taryn Roth and Peyton Looney had the other two goals on the night for Highland, which will now head up north to the 6A State Tournament at War Memorial Field in Sandpoint.

The Rams are still searching for their first state championship.

POCATELLO 9, PRESTON 1

Ary Gonzalez pulled off the hat trick, as the Thunder (14-3) four-peated in the Class 5A District V final Thursday at Irving Middle School.

Lexi Wells added a pair of goals. Brooke Murphy, Hallie Bringhurst, Brynlee Pool and Reagan Lyon scored the others for Pocatello, which now heads into the state the winners of 14 of its last 15 games.

The Class 5A State Tournament gets underway next Thursday at Hillcrest High School. The Thunder have placed third in each of the last three years.

VOLLEYBALL

POCATELLO 3, CENTURY 1

Jakobi Nebeker piled up 28 kills and 14 digs for a double-double, as the Thunder (22-8, 2-0 5A South East Idaho Conference) sent their seniors out on a high note by claiming the regular season conference title Thursday at home.

Abby Lusk also had a double-double with 20 kills and 18 blocks to go with three blocks. Adrie Johnson, who already leads the state in digs, added 28 more. Josie Haymore amassed 51 assists on the night. She leads the state in that category.

MALAD 3, DECLO 0

Brin Clark racked up 14 kills, as the Dragons (25-8-1, 9-0 3A South East Idaho Conference) wrapped up the regular season conference title Thursday on senior night in league play.

Riglee Peterson added 21 digs, Izzy Haycock 16 digs and five aces and Liv Nelson four blocks for Malad in the win.

BEAR LAKE 3, PRESTON 0

Brynlee Birch recorded her 1,000th career kill, as the Bears (25-3, 8-0 4A South East Idaho Conference) won the the regular season league title Thursday on senior night. 

The senior did so with seven kills to go with 10 digs. She wasn't the only player to have a career milestone on the night. Saydee Shaul notched her 1,000th career dig with 10 in the win. 

Emmie Sharp added 30 assists, Kortlyn Skinner eight kills and Halle Wells, Avery Hunter and Londyn Lufkin all had four blocks for Bear Lake, which pushed its winning streak to 15 games.

WEST SIDE WINS TRI-MEET OVER LEADORE AND ABERDEEN

The Pirates (26-8-2, 7-2 3A South East Idaho Conference) ended their regular season by knocking off Leadore (25-21, 25-16) and Aberdeen (25-7, 25-11, 25-3) in a tri-match Thursday at Aberdeen High School.
