NAMPA — Few teams have kept up with the Idaho Horsemen this season.

It stayed that way Sunday evening.

The first-year arena football team completed an unbeaten season with a 40-20 win over the Reno Express in the inaugural American West Football Conference championship at the Ford Idaho Center.

The Horsemen (13-0) entered the game having outscored their opponents 597-331 with an average margin of victory of 22.1 points per game. They had already beaten Reno four times by 25.2 points per game.

It was a similar result Sunday — albeit with 20-20 score at the half.

Nampa High School graduate Hayden Wright was the MVP. He completed 16 of 23 passes for 196 yards and combined for five touchdowns — three through the air.

Kevin Mattos caught all three of Wright’s touchdown passes while Cam Hale scored on a 2-yard run.
