For the first time in program history, Boise State women’s soccer has been selected to win the Mountain West Conference.
Boise State tallied 109 points and four first-place votes to edge San Jose State by four points in the league’s preseason coaches poll, released Tuesday.
“It’s a massive privilege to be voted by your peers to be one of the favorites, but ultimately I think that’s all it is,” Broncos head coach Jim Thomas said. “You can be in that top group, but when it comes down to it, at the end of the season there is a group of three or four of us that expect to be vying for a title. That was the case last year. Those games will be important when they come around this year.”
The Broncos captured a share of the 2018 regular-season title and return 21 letterwinners, led by two-time Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year Raimee Sherle. She netted a Mountain West-record 20 goals in 2018. She is joined by fellow 2018 first-team all-Mountain West selection McKenna Kynett and all-newcomer selection Macie Nelson.
Boise State kicks off its regular season Aug. 23 in Moscow against Idaho. The Broncos’ first home game is Aug. 25 against Eastern Washington at BOAS Soccer Complex.
