The Idaho State men’s tennis team hosted a fall invitational with Weber State, Boise State, Air Force, Montana and Montana State over the weekend at Reed Gym and Capell Park.
The Bengals had a very successful weekend. Lukas Ridemar and Fynn Lohse advanced to the finals of the doubles tournament before falling 7-6 in a tiebreaking set.
Patrik Trhac and Gary Rendek also advanced to the semifinals before falling to the eventual doubles champions from Montana.
“We had a really strong showing over the weekend,” Idaho State coach Mark Rodel said. “We had two doubles teams make it to the semifinals. Idaho State showed we were a dominant force in doubles with two teams making it through the entire draw. It keeps with the tradition we have built over the last three years with strong doubles performances. As we look back we saw that evident in our 17 doubles wins out of 21. We will keep building on that.”
In singles competition, Lukas Ridemar advanced to the semifinals of the A draw while Gary Rendek advanced to the finals of the Orange B draw. Ridemar beat Mack Galvin of Air Force, 4-6, 6-3 (10-5) and Max Korkh of Montana, 6-3, 7-6 (4), before losing to Kyryll Kryvchun of Boise State, 4-6, 6-4 (10-5).
Rendek won his first match, 5-7, 7-5, 10-6 and then beat Paul Ohde of Weber State, 6-1, 6-2. In the semifinals he beat Blake Bayldon of Boise State, 6-4, 6-3.
Lohse also played well in the A draw as he advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Chris Van Wyk of Weber State, who won the draw. Lohse defeated Drew Brown of Montana State, 6-4, 7-6 (1).
“We had three draws of 16 in each,” Rodel said. “In the A draw I had strong performance by Fynn Lohse and an exceptional performance by Lukas Ridemar, who narrowly got beat out in a third-set tiebreaker in the semifinals against the No. 1 seeded from Boise State.”
