MADISON 65, HIGHLAND 35

Highland suffered a 65-35 loss Tuesday at Madison to open the 5A District 5-6 tournament. The Rams trailed 10-2 after the opening quarter and 28-8 at halftime.

Highland (5-17) plays Thursday at Thunder Ridge in a loser-out game.

BLACKFOOT 56, SHELLEY 36

Blackfoot answered Shelley’s first quarter and downed the Russets 56-36 on Tuesday in the opening round of the 4A District 6 tournament at Skyline High School.

Shelley led 12-9 after eight minutes, but the Broncos responded by outscoring the Russets 34-13 over the second and third quarters.

“It was a tough first half. We didn’t shoot great the first half,” Blackfoot coach Cody Shelley said. “Good defense, and started rolling in the third and fourth quarter.”

Dexter Hale led the way with 21 points for the Broncos (11-10), who play Hillcrest on Thursday at Bonneville High. Shelley (0-21) plays Skyline on Friday in a loser-out game at Hillcrest High.

MARSH VALLEY 56, AMERICAN FALLS 32

Marsh Valley overcame a slow start and beat American Falls 56-32 at home Tuesday in the first round of the 3A District 5 tournament.

The Eagles trailed 9-8 after the first quarter, but recovered by outscoring the Beavers 17-6 in the second and 18-4 in the third.

Marsh Valley (13-8) was paced by 11 points apiece from Payton Campbell and Jacob McNabb and plays Thursday at Snake River. American Falls (8-13) got nine points from Ethan Beutler and plays Saturday against the loser of Thursday’s matchup in a loser-out game.

SODA SPRINGS 50, ABERDEEN 29

Soda Springs kept its season alive Tuesday, beating Aberdeen 50-29 at home in a 2A District 5 tournament play-in game.

The Cardinals outscored the Tigers 22-9 in the second quarter to take a 34-19 lead into the locker room.

“We played some pretty good defense, got some shots to fall,” Soda Springs coach Greg Bergholm said. “Everybody contributed tonight.”

Brock Thompson (13) was the high point man for the Cardinals (6-16), who play Thursday at Bear Lake. Aberdeen ended the season with an 0-22 record.

WEST JEFFERSON 45, FIRTH 44

Firth was outlasted 45-44 by West Jefferson on Tuesday in the 2A District 6 tournament at South Fremont High School.

Firth’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer to win the game was off the mark, sealing the win for the Panthers.

The Cougars (10-11) plays Salmon on Wednesday in a loser-out game.

GRACE 75, TAYLOR’S CROSSING 41

Grace opened the 1A DI District 5-6 tournament with a 75-41 win Tuesday against Taylor’s Crossing at West Jefferson High School.

Stockton Lloyd (17 points), Ivor Gibbs (15), Jacob Reeves (15) and Theo Wood (14) combined to tally 61 points for the Grizzlies (16-5), who play Challis on Thursday for a spot in the title game.
