Malad’s season ended Friday with a 10-0, six-inning loss to the Idaho Falls Tigers in the Single-A Legion state tournament at Burley High School.
The Dragons were held to two hits and committed six errors that led to six unearned runs for the Tigers.
Malad loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but did not capitalize. An infield fly and a groundout retired the threat, and Idaho Falls went on to score twice in the bottom half of the frame to end the game via run rule.
“I think we were just tired today,” Malad coach Russ Wilson said. “We had that rugged game last night, it was ugly and kind of took the starch out of everybody.”
Malad won the Area C district championship this season and won its first two games at this week’s state tournament. The Dragons’ Legion program is in its third year since being rebooted in 2017.
Wilson said this year’s team carried no recently graduated high school seniors, meaning the entire team could stay intact next season.
“We had a great season overall,” Wilson said. “Just to end up where we did was amazing. I’m very proud of the boys for accomplishing that.”
