Coleson Warner (Highland High) — Lindenwood University-Belleville
Highland alumnus Coleson Warner helped the Lindenwood-Belleville men's rugby team win the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s I-AA national championship May 25 in Tucson, Arizona.
Warner scored one try and two conversions in the title match — a 19-5 win against Western Michigan. The junior flyhalf finished the championship tournament with four tries and 14 conversions for 44 points, earning tournament MVP honors. Blackfoot High School alumnus Carter Marlow is a freshman on the team.
The Linx trailed the championship game 5-0 early and were tied 5-5 at intermission before outscoring Western Michigan 14-5 the rest of the way.
"I told them to leave it all out there," Warner said in an interview with USA Rugby. "We kind of struggled in the beginning. ... Something clicked in them and Im glad it did. Without the team, then we've got nothing."
