4A DISTRICT 4-5 TOURNAMENT

Dates: Oct. 9-19

Format: Double-elimination

State qualifiers: 3

The seeds (3 points for wins, 1 point for ties): 1. Century (31 points), 2. Wood River (29), 3. Jerome (28), 4. Preston (26), 5. Canyon Ridge (22), 6. Twin Falls (21), 7. Mountain Home (12), 8. Burley (12), 9. Minico (6), 10. Pocatello (3).

Breakdown: Top-seeded Century enters the tournament leading a crowded top of the table. The Diamondbacks (10-2-2) are led by their defense, which has yielded 13 goals in 14 games this season. Century is also steady offensively, scoring at least once in each game this year. Preston (8-3-3) needs to pull an upset to vault itself from the No. 4 seed into a top-three state tournament slot. The Indians have competed with the conference’s top dogs, beating No. 3 Jerome on Sept. 30 and tying No. 2 Wood River back on Aug. 24. Pocatello (1-14) fell to Mountain Home in Monday’s play-in game.

3A DISTRICT 5 TOURNAMENT

Location: American Falls High School

Dates: Oct. 8-15

Format: Double-elimination

State qualifiers: 1.25

The seeds: 1. American Falls, 2. Marsh Valley, 3. Snake River, 4. Aberdeen.

Breakdown: American Falls earned the right to host the tournament by going unbeaten in league play to grab the No. 1 seed. The Beavers coasted through conference opponents, outscoring them 42-1. The tournament runner-up must win two play-in games to reach the state tournament.

4A DISTRICT 4-5 TOURNAMENT

The seeds (3 points for wins, 1 point for ties): 1. Twin Falls (39 points), 2. Pocatello (30), 3. Preston (29), 4. Century (24), 5. Wood River (23), 6. Jerome (19), 7. Canyon Ridge (13), 8. Mountain Home (6), 9. Burley (6), 10. Minico (0).

Breakdown: A couple streaks may fall at this year’s 4A District 4-5 tournament. First, Pocatello (10-1-3), the No. 2 seed, is seeking its first trip to the state tournament since 2007. The Indians’ only loss is against top-seeded Twin Falls — a 7-1 defeat, one of two games in which Poky allowed more than one goal. Next is Century (7-4-3), which is at risk of missing state for the first time since the Idaho High School Activities Association started sponsoring soccer state tournaments in 2000. The fourth-seeded Diamondbacks didn’t have a regular-season win against a team seeded in the top three. Preston (9-4-2) enters districts on a two-game losing streak, but played Twin Falls the closest of any local 4A team this season, losing 2-1.

3A DISTRICT 5 TOURNAMENT

Location: Marsh Valley High School

Dates: Oct. 8-15

Format: Double-elimination

State qualifiers: 1.25

The seeds: 1. Marsh Valley, 2. American Falls, 3. Aberdeen, 4. Malad, 5. Snake River

Breakdown: Top-seeded Marsh Valley is the favorite after going undefeated in district play — though Malad tied the Eagles 0-0. No. 2 American Falls has the next-best chance, with its only two league losses coming at the hands of Marsh Valley. Aberdeen, Malad and Snake River will also battle it out for a chance to win two play-in games to to go the state tournament.
