Once again we get from your columnist a flood of words and specious reasoning to defend the indefensible.

Abortion is the destruction of a human life. Human life has worth because the Creator made us in his image, so that destroying human life is an assault on his image. No one’s decision can void that worth: not a mother’s decision, not a court decree from nine old people in black robes, not a vote by our duly elected legislators.

The basic function of government is to protect society by protecting human life. A government that does not protect human life has betrayed its reason for existence. God is remarkably merciful to those who turn from their destructive ways, but as the Governor of the universe he has a very long memory, and the millions of victims of abortion are not forgotten by him, though they may be ignored by us.
