STAR VALLEY RANCH, Wyoming — Authorities are investigating the apparent shooting deaths of a couple in this small rural town near the East Idaho border, according to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people who are dead as Gary Dale Hodges, 71, and Memorie Jean Hodges, 46. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the Hodges were a couple but provided no additional information about them.
Authorities have not said anything about the circumstances surrounding the shooting except that it is believed to be an isolated incident. The Sheriff’s Office has not released any information about whether it is looking for any suspects in the case.
The incident began to unfold at 11:43 a.m. Monday when the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Kemmerer, Wyoming, received a call from a concerned resident requesting a welfare check on a couple residing on Alta Drive in Star Valley Ranch, authorities said.
The responding deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make contact with the occupants of the home but received no response at the front door, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The deputies then gained entry to the home and found the couple dead with apparent gunshot wounds, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies recovered a firearm near the dead bodies, authorities said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office did not release what type of firearm was recovered, nor whether the gun was still loaded.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
Star Valley Ranch is a town of approximately 1,600 people located about 40 miles northeast of Soda Springs.
