Cows on loose

Law enforcement officers keep an eye on several cows on the loose along Interstate 15 in Pocatello on Friday.

POCATELLO — Several cows were on the loose Friday along Interstate 15 in Pocatello.

Pocatello police and animal control officers, Bannock County sheriff’s deputies and Idaho State Police responded to Interstate 15 just north of the Pocatello Creek Road exit around 10:50 a.m. Friday when at least five cows somehow escaped from the vehicle transporting them.

Motorists were encouraged to avoid Interstate 15 in the area of the Pocatello Creek Road exit because of the cows, which were roaming the east shoulder of the freeway.

The cows were rounded up, placed in trailers and removed from the scene by 1 p.m. Friday.

Interstate 15 and the Pocatello Creek Road exit were both partially blocked at times as the cows were corralled.

State police said they’re still investigating how the cows got out of the vehicle transporting them.

None of the cows appeared to be injured and there were no crashes on the freeway as a result of the incident, state police said.
