A Pocatello woman was sentenced on Monday to three years probation and 200 hours of community service after pleading guilty to insurance fraud.
Michaelynn G. Christy, 33, was also ordered by Fourth District Judge Melissa Moody to pay a $500 fine and to serve four days in jail with credit for time served.
According to the Office of the Idaho Attorney General, Christy admitted to providing a false statement to an insurance company.
Prosecutors said Christy filed a claim in March 2015 with Esurance for an alleged hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of a Walmart in Boise. However, investigators determined that the damage on her vehicle was actually caused by multiple accidents.
Christy later confessed to a Department of Insurance investigator that she lied about the hit-and-run. Instead, she said she drove her car into a carport post and that her brother had backed into her car.
Christy pleaded guilty to insurance fraud in April. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors said she agreed to pay $1,517 in restitution to the Idaho Department of Insurance and $179 to Esurance.
